Born in Hawai'i and raised between Maui and Nairobi, Kenya, Imani has worked as a multidisciplinary artist since 2000. With an entrepreneural spirit + a passion for living a life by her own design, Imani fuses her skills as a yoga medicine instructor, jewelry designer, and performance artist under her umbrella company Hibiscus Lifestyle Co. Her past is laced with poetic work as a spoken word mentor, musician, author, radio presenter, and recording artist. She is the co-founder of Kenya’s Slam Africa Movement and has played an integral role in the spread of the Spoken Word art form in East Africa. She is the author and producer of two poetry books and three Spoken Word albums, Morning Rain (2006), Pearls (2009), and Talking Story (2012). 

Imani has delivered multiple performances and workshops at festivals, theaters, schools, and universities around the world. Blessed with the ability to move diverse audiences, she has worked with the United Nations, as well as with one of Africa’s leading underground Hip-Hop arts platforms, WAPI. Over the past two decades she has had extensive experience working with youth as a mentor and poetry teacher both in and beyond school systems, and has written, directed, and produced a number of poetry theater performances and one-woman shows.
